Planning a duct line
- List what you make. Round, rectangular or both, and the size range.
- Pick the long seam. Pittsburgh lock or button punch snap lock.
- Pick the joints. S-cleat and drive, or a flanged TDF-style system.
- Check the gauges. Every machine has a rated range for galvanized steel.
- Plan the floor. Leave room to feed sheet in and take finished pieces out.
- Plan the order of work. Set the machines in the order a piece moves through the shop, from shear to lock former to beader.
Questions
Pittsburgh lock or snap lock?
Pittsburgh lock is the common long seam and closes with a hammer or a seamer. Button punch snap lock assembles faster on site, which suits some shops and installers.
Do I need both cleat and flange machines?
Only if you make both joint types. Many shops start with S-cleat and drive and add flanged joints for larger duct.
Do these machines run aluminum or stainless?
Some do within their rated range. Check each product page, or ask us with the metal and gauge you plan to run.
Can I get these machines delivered?
Ask for a delivery price with your quote. It depends on the machine’s size and the destination.
For sheet and coil to run in them, see metal coil and sheet. Other shop equipment: slitters and shears and all machines.
