About this product
Copper sheet is flat stock for roofers and sheet metal craftsmen working on slate, tile and historic roofs, chimney and dormer flashings, cornice and bay roofs, cap pieces and ornamental details, where a full flat sheet is easier to lay out than a coil.
Sheets are 36″ wide and listed in 16 oz and 20 oz. The 120″ sheet is the main size, with a shorter 36″-wide sheet also on the list. Revere Copper and the Copper Development Association put 16 oz copper at about .0216″ thick and 20 oz at about .0270″, and the CDA treats 16 oz as the common minimum for flashings while using 20 oz under slate or tile and for flat-seam roofs. Lead-coated copper sheet, made to ASTM B101 for roofing, flashing and rainwater goods, is also listed for jobs that call for a gray finish.
Copper is soft and forgiving to work. Mark it with the WUKO Scribe Plate, cut it with Malco or Midwest snips, and fold it with a hand seamer or on a Van Mark brake. Keep it separated from Galvalume steel and aluminum, which corrode where they touch copper, and use compatible copper fasteners. For long runs of trim or standing seam panels, Copper Coil in 18″, 24″ and 36″ widths may be more efficient than sheet.
Backer rod and sealant for joints, plus the hand tools above, round out most copper orders.
