Material Estimating & Takeoffs

Send us plans or roof measurements and get the materials list worked out: coil or panels, trim, clips, fasteners, sealant and underlayment, priced on one quote.

Confirm before you send plans. Estimating scope, turnaround and any fee are confirmed by phone for each job. Call (732) 561-4275.

What a takeoff covers

A materials takeoff counts what goes on the roof, not the labor to put it there. For a standing seam roof, it usually covers:

  • The number and length of panels, or the coil to form them.
  • Eave, rake, ridge, hip and valley trim.
  • Clips and clip screws at the right spacing.
  • Butyl tape, sealant, closures and backer rod.
  • Underlayment for the field, eaves and valleys.
  • Snow guards and pipe flashing where needed.

What changes the numbers

  • Roof shape. Hips, valleys and dormers add trim and waste. Cut-up roofs need extra panels.
  • Pitch. Steeper roofs mean longer panels for the same plan size.
  • Panel profile. Each profile covers a different width and needs its own clips.
  • Penetrations. Skylights, vents and chimneys need flashing and extra trim.
  • Finish. Kynar 500 costs more than SMP or polyester, and some colors take longer to get.
  • Underlayment. Self-adhered membrane costs more than a synthetic, so where it goes matters.

What to send

  1. Plans or a roof plan with dimensions, or the eave, rake, ridge, hip and valley lengths.
  2. The roof pitch.
  3. The panel profile and the machine, if you form your own panels.
  4. The metal, gauge and color.
  5. Photos of the existing roof and any tricky details.
  6. The job address, for delivery.

Questions

Is there a charge for a takeoff?

Ask us when you call. Any charge is agreed before we start.

Do you estimate installation labor?

No. Our takeoffs cover materials. Labor is between you and your installer.

How long does a takeoff take?

It depends on the size of the job and the plans. Call for the current turnaround.

Can you estimate from photos?

Photos help, but measurements or plans are needed for an accurate count.
