The StanGroup Button Punch Snap Lock-former is a dedicated roll former for the longitudinal seam on rectangular HVAC duct. Duct shops and mechanical contractors like the snap-lock seam because duct halves can be formed and stacked flat, then snapped together at assembly instead of having a seam hammered closed.
The machine forms both sides of the joint. It comes with male and female rolls: one side rolls the pocket, the other rolls the matching edge with a row of punched buttons that catch inside the pocket when the two halves are pushed together. StanGroup lists it for galvanized and stainless steel from 18 to 26 gauge, and mentions aluminum among its applications. Forming speed is 40 ft/min, with 9 roller pairs on each side driven by a 3 HP (2.2 kW) motor. StanGroup’s current page gives the power as 220 V single-phase, 60 Hz.
