About this product
Painted steel coil is what roofing and siding contractors feed into a portable roll former or bend on a brake to make standing seam roof panels, wall panels, flashing and trim. It is the everyday material for residential and light commercial metal roofs away from the shoreline.
We list it in 22, 24, 26 and 29 gauge. Standard widths are 19.7″, 20″ and 24″, and 11.625″, 11.75″ and 16″ are special-order widths. Finish options on the order form are PVDF (Kynar 500), SMP, polyester, crinkle and Tedlar film. Slitting and cut-to-size coil are part of our shop services, so ask if your panel profile needs a width that is not on the list.
Lower gauge numbers mean thicker steel: 22 and 24 gauge give a stiffer, flatter panel, while 26 and 29 gauge are lighter and easier to fold by hand. Painted roofing steel is usually Galvalume, a steel sheet with an aluminum-zinc coating; U.S. Steel warns against letting it touch copper, lead, cement or treated lumber. If the building is close to salt water, talk to us about Aluminum Coil before you order. For flat stock, Steel Sheet comes 48″ x 120″ in the same gauges.
Panel crews running a portable machine such as the SS4E Junior or the NTM SSQ II MultiPro usually add Standing Seam Fixed and Floating Clips, Pan Clip Head Screws, Butyl Tape and a Tyvek Protec underlayment to the same order.

Can I get 11-5/8" or 16" coil?
Yes. 11.625", 11.75" and 16" are special-order widths; 19.7", 20" and 24" are the standard widths. Custom slitting is also available.
Steel or aluminum for a house near the ocean?
Ask us about Aluminum Coil for buildings close to salt water; salt spray is hard on steel.
