Touch-Up Paint for Metal Roofing

Sherwin-Williams Ready Match touch-up paint for scratches and small damage on painted metal roofing, siding and trim. Order it in the same color and paint system as your coil.

When to touch up

Touch-up paint is for small scratches and scuffs that reach the primer or the metal. It is not for repainting whole panels. Factory paint is baked on, and touch-up paint weathers differently over the years. Large areas will look different from the panel around them.

If a panel has a large scratch, a dent or a long scrape, replacing the panel usually looks better than painting it.

How to apply it

  1. Clean the area with a mild cleaner and let it dry.
  2. Shake or stir the paint well.
  3. Apply a thin coat with a small brush or pen, only on the damaged spot.
  4. Let it dry, and add a second thin coat if needed.
  5. Don’t touch up in direct hot sun or below the temperature on the label.

Matching the color

Give us the color name and the chart it comes from, such as Everlast Metals or Progressive Metals. Tell us the paint system too, Kynar 500 or SMP. If you don’t know the color, bring a piece of trim or a cut-off so we can compare it.

Questions

Will touch-up paint affect the finish warranty?

Check the warranty document for your coil. Small touch-ups are normal. Large painted areas may not be covered the same way. See our warranties page.

Do you have every color on the chart?

Ask us with the color name and the paint system. We’ll tell you what’s available and how long it takes.

Brush, pen or spray?

Brush or pen for small spots. Spraying covers too much area and shows more as it weathers.

Can I use it on Tedlar or bare copper?

No. Touch-up paint is for painted coil. For film-laminated Tedlar or bare copper and zinc, ask us before you do anything.

Should I paint cut edges?

Ask the coil maker. Some finishes don’t need it, and paint on cut edges can look worse over time.
