About this product

Zinc coil is titanium zinc on a roll, used by architectural sheet metal contractors for standing seam roofs, wall cladding, gutters, flashings and detail work on residential and commercial buildings where a matte gray metal is part of the design.

We list it in two thicknesses, 0.7 mm and 0.8 mm (the old listing dropped the decimal point and showed 7mm and 8mm), and two widths, 19.7″ and 39.4″, which are the metric 500 mm and 1000 mm widths zinc is rolled in. RHEINZINK, one of the major zinc mills, makes its pre-weathered prePATINA zinc in blue-grey and graphite-grey at these thicknesses, to EN 988 and ASTM B69.

Zinc behaves differently from aluminum or steel on the job. RHEINZINK’s processing guide says to warm the work area when the metal is below 10°C (50°F) before seaming or bending, never to use an open flame, and not to heat the metal above 80°C. It also warns that zinc which stays wet and warm underneath with no air movement can corrode from the back, so the roof build-up needs ventilation or an underside-coated product. On site, WUKO hand benders and seaming pliers handle short folds, and a Van Mark brake takes the long ones. For flat stock, Zinc Sheet comes 39.4″ x 120″.
