Coil Slitting Service

Our coil slitting service in New Brunswick, NJ cuts a wide coil into narrower coils along its length. Order coil slit to the width your roll former, brake or gutter machine needs, instead of buying a full-width coil and cutting it down yourself.

Confirm before you order. Slitting tolerances, minimum quantities, turnaround and pricing are confirmed by phone for each order. Call (732) 561-4275 with the width and the quantity.

When slitting makes sense

  • Panel coil. Your roll former’s profile sheet calls for a set coil width. Slit coil feeds the machine at that width.
  • Trim and flashing stock. Narrow coils are easier to handle at the brake than a full-width coil.
  • Gutter coil. Gutter machines need a set width for each size.
  • Less waste. Slit coil comes close to your finished width, so you don’t lose as much edge as when you shear sheet by hand.

Coil cut to a consistent width also feeds processing equipment more smoothly, which saves setup time on the machine.

What to send us

  1. The metal, gauge, finish and color.
  2. Each width you need and how much of each, in pounds or linear feet.
  3. The machine and profile the coil will run on.
  4. When you need it, and whether you’ll pick up or need delivery.

A photo of the coil tag from your last order helps if you are reordering the same material.

How slit widths work

A master coil is slit into several narrower coils at once. The outside edges are trimmed a little to give clean, square edges. When the widths you need don’t use the whole master coil, the leftover may add to the cost. Combining widths on one master coil, such as panel coil and trim stock from the same color, can bring the cost down. Ask about combining widths when you request a quote.

Full coil or slit coil?

If you can use a full-width coil as it comes, it costs less per pound than slit coil. Slitting makes sense when the width matters for your machine or when narrow coils save handling and waste on the job. Ask for both prices if you’re not sure.

Do it yourself?

Shops that slit every day sometimes buy their own gang slitter. For trim coil at the brake, a Van Mark Trim-A-Slitter cuts strips on site.
