Metal Roofing Calculators

Four calculators for the math you do before every order. Each one shows its formula and its assumptions, and each result can go straight into your quote.

How the calculators work

Every result is an estimate. The calculators use nominal thickness, which is the target thickness for a gauge. Real coil varies a little with the mill’s tolerance and the paint, so check the coil tag for the actual weight. Each calculator shows its assumptions so you can check the math by hand.

Densities we use

MetalDensity (lb per cubic inch)
Aluminum0.0975
Steel0.2836
Copper0.323
Zinc0.258

The weight of one linear foot is the width times the thickness times 12 times the density. For 24″ × .032″ aluminum, that comes to about 0.90 lb per foot.

Tips for accurate numbers

  • Measure along the slope, not the plan, or use the pitch factor.
  • Add waste. Hips, valleys and dormers need more than a simple gable.
  • Round panels up to whole panels.
  • Tell us the machine and profile, so the coil width matches.

Questions

Are the results guaranteed?

No. They are estimates to help you plan. Confirm quantities with us before you order, especially on complex roofs.

Do the calculators handle snow loads or wind ratings?

No. They don’t do engineering. Ask the panel maker or an engineer for loads and fastening patterns.
