About this product
A snow guard holds snow on a metal roof so it melts away gradually rather than sliding off all at once. Roofers add snow guards above entries, walkways, decks, driveways, lower roofs and gutters, where a sudden slide can injure people, damage property or tear gutters off the fascia. On smooth painted metal, snow can release much more suddenly than on shingles, which is why snow guards are common on metal roofs in snow country.
How many guards a roof needs, and in what pattern, depends on the roof pitch, panel length, local snow load and the guard’s tested holding strength. Snow guard makers publish layout guidance for their own products, and following that layout matters more than any rule of thumb. Tell us the roof dimensions, pitch and panel type and we will help you work out a quantity.
On standing seam roofs, the no-penetration route is a seam clamp: the AceClamp A2, A2N, A2Nw and ML clamps in this catalog grip the seam without drilling through the panel, and snow retention hardware mounts to them. Pick the clamp by seam type (single-lock, double-lock, snap-lock or nail-strip). Before ordering, confirm which mounting method this snow guard uses so it suits your roof.
Snow guard orders often include Geocell sealant and Sherwin-Williams Ready Match Touch Up for finishing.
