StanGroup’s Sliding and Fixed Roofing Cleat Forming Tools let a roofer or sheet metal shop make 1″ cleats for double-lock mechanical seam panels from strip, in whatever metal the job needs. They are useful when a roof calls for cleats in the same metal as the panels, such as copper, or when a crew wants to make cleats as needed instead of buying them.
The fixed-cleat tool is a single 12 lb unit. You push the end of a strip into its slot, fold the cleat in one bend, cut it off and repeat, and the die presses two indents to locate the screws or nails. The sliding-cleat set has three tools and weighs 60 lb in all. The first bends the hook piece from strip in one move, after which you cut it free. The second is a manual die that punches three fastener holes and a long sliding slot into the base piece and cuts it off in the same stroke. The third bends the base to 90°. Slip the hook into the slot and the two-piece sliding cleat is ready to install. Both tools take steel up to 24 gauge, stainless up to .020″, copper up to 20 oz and aluminum up to .024″.
If you would rather buy cleats ready-made, the catalog carries the Standing Seam Fixed Clip and Standing Seam Floating Clip. For strip, use Copper Coil, Steel Coil or Aluminum Coil, and for the panels, a 1″ double-lock machine such as the SS4E Junior.
