About this product

The Car Tire Sidewall Cutter is a shop machine for scrap tire handlers, tire recyclers and yards that need to cut the sidewalls away from passenger car tires. Separating the sidewalls from the tread band reduces the bulk of whole scrap tires and prepares the pieces for further processing. It is not a sheet metal machine; it sits in the special machines section of the catalog.

The listing gives a throughput of about 1 to 2 tons an hour, roughly 100 to 200 tires depending on the tire. It runs on a 1.5 hp motor at 120 V, 60 Hz single phase, through a 40:1 gearbox, and connects to standard shop air with a quick coupler. A foot switch leaves the operator’s hands free to position the tire. It accepts tires up to 33.5″ (850 mm) outside diameter and 12″ (304 mm) wide; the upper and lower drive wheels open to 8.5″ (215 mm) apart, and the top roller is listed at 11 3/8″ in diameter. Plan on sharpening the knife about every 10 tons, which the listing puts at 800 to 900 tires.

The machine measures 42″ x 45″ x 48″ and weighs about 400 lb (181 kg). Because it runs from a 120 V circuit and an ordinary air line, it does not need three-phase power, which keeps installation simple in a tire shop or small yard.
