About this product
ADSEAL DWS 4580 is Adfast’s one-part, neutral-cure silicone for door, window and siding work, packed here in a standard 304 ml cartridge that fits an ordinary caulking gun. It cures to a flexible silicone rubber by drawing moisture from the air, and it does not sag, so beads stay put on vertical faces and overhead joints.
Siding, window and sheet metal crews use it on perimeter joints around windows and doors, siding and trim joints, flashing laps and other movement joints. Adfast lists adhesion to glass, most woods, clean metals, fiberglass, ceramics, masonry, many painted surfaces and some plastics, and asks for an adhesion test first; a primer may be needed on some substrates. The colored versions are rated for 50% joint movement in either direction.
- Standards: ASTM C920 Type S, Grade NS, Class 50, Use NT, M, G, A, O (except translucent 4581); ASTM C1184; AAMA 802 and 805; ECOLOGO certified.
- Working time: tack-free in about 25 to 30 minutes; full cure takes 7 to 14 days.
- Temperatures: can be applied down to -20°F; once cured it handles -40°F to 450°F.
Two limits to plan around: it cannot be painted, so pick the color up front, and beads should be no deeper than 1/2″. Keep joints at least 1/4″ x 1/4″ and about twice as wide as deep. Adfast recommends a backer rod in movement joints, and Closed Cell Backer Rod is in the catalog. Adfast also notes that copper-based metals can discolor when sealed tightly. For bigger runs, the same sealant comes in the Adseal 600 ml sausage.
It is available from our New Brunswick, NJ warehouse; call (732) 561-4275 to check stock and colors, or add it to your quote.

Questions
Can I paint over it?
No. Adfast states the DWS 4580 series cannot be painted, so choose a color that matches the work.
How deep can the bead be?
No more than 1/2" deep, since it cures with moisture from the air. Keep joints at least 1/4" x 1/4" and roughly twice as wide as deep.
Can I caulk in cold weather?
Adfast says it can be applied as low as -20°F on dry, frost-free surfaces. Cure is slower in the cold.
