Geocel Phantom Metal Roof Sealant is made for crews who are tired of carrying a box of color-matched tubes to every metal job. Instead of opaque colors, it comes in six translucent tints (white, gray, bronze, green, blue and red) that let the panel finish show through the cured bead, so the joint blends with the roof or wall around it.
Geocel says to choose the tint by the panel’s LRV, or light reflectance value, a 0 to 100 rating of how much light a color reflects; the panel or coil maker can supply the number. Its chart puts translucent white on very light panels above LRV 70 and translucent gray on very dark panels below LRV 10. Between LRV 10 and 40 you match the tint to the color family, and from LRV 40 to 70 gray or white is used.
Geocel states it bonds to coated metal panels even when damp, can be applied in damp, cold or hot weather, stays flexible, resists UV and mildew once cured, is paintable, and can be resealed over itself. It is compatible with asphalt shingles and is also listed for skylights and HVAC work. It comes in a 10.3 fl. oz. plastic cartridge. Keep it off traffic surfaces, extruded polystyrene sheathing and acrylic skylight glazing, and do not use it indoors or on potable water systems. A new non-perchloroethylene formula carries part numbers ending in “X”.
Use it on trim laps, flashing joints and fastener details on panels and coil from the catalog, with Butyl Tape inside the laps and Geocel 2300 where an opaque or crystal-clear bead is wanted.
