Geocel 2300 is a one-part tripolymer sealant that roofers and sheet metal crews keep on the truck for roof, trim and flashing joints. Geocel now sells it as the 2300 Roof Tripolymer Sealant; earlier cartridges were labeled Construction Tripolymer Sealant. It goes on with a standard caulking gun, does not string, and grabs many building surfaces even when they are damp.
Geocel lists asphalt shingles, coated steel with Kynar 500-based finishes, plain steel, vinyl and concrete among its substrates. It stays flexible after it cures, resists UV and mildew, and can be painted. A cured bead can be repaired by running fresh 2300 right over it, which makes maintenance on older roofs simple. The crystal-clear version comes in a clear plastic cartridge, so you can see how much sealant is left.
On a metal job it is used to seal trim and flashing laps, roof details, siding and window trim, architectural metal and solar roof mounts. Keep it off traffic surfaces, extruded polystyrene sheathing (Styrofoam-type boards) and acrylic skylight glazing. Geocel is moving the line to a new non-perchloroethylene formula, sold under part numbers ending in “X”, and colored versions are not sold in California.
For seams on painted panels where the bead should blend in, Geocel Phantom translucent sealant is the alternative, and Butyl Tape belongs inside laps.
