Van Mark’s 6’6″ Mark I Series brake (M6-S) is a light-duty, cam-locking brake for siding crews and remodelers who wrap windows, doors and trim in aluminum coil. The Mark I line dates to 1983, when it introduced the cam-lock that Van Mark still uses across its brakes.

Six and a half feet covers window trim, shorter fascia and rake pieces, and porch and column wraps. It is a sensible middle size for a crew that wants a brake light enough, at 83 lb, to set up on the driveway.

On the brake you get three castings with two per clamping station, dual base rails, and a Power Lock bar with AccuTrack rails that take the Van Mark TrimCutter, TrimFormer and Multi Gauge Angle Guide. The traditional hinge measures a 3/4″ hem by itself, and the brake bends a full 180 degrees for hemmed edges. Locking and bending handles are full-loop with foam grips, and the locking handle pushes away from you to lock.

Capacity is what separates the Mark I from heavier brakes. Van Mark rates it for .027″ aluminum, 29 gauge painted or galvanized steel, 24 oz soft copper and .032″ soft zinc. The throat is 14″. Stands are extra; Van Mark’s 14″ throat stands, such as the UniStand EZ-GO (USA1EZ) and the UniLeg 1, fit it.
