About this product

The Pan Clip SD MT Drilling Low is a self-drilling pancake-head screw that roofers and metal building crews use to fasten standing seam and snap-lock clips to steel deck or light-gauge purlins. The drill point cuts its own hole, so you fasten the clip in one pass with no pilot drilling, and the low head stays flat under the panel.

Use this screw where the clip lands on metal. On plywood or OSB sheathing, the sharp-point Pan Clip Head Screws are the usual choice. Drill-point screws are rated for a range of steel thickness, so tell us what you are fastening into (deck gauge or purlin thickness) and we will confirm the right drill point and length. Screw count per clip and clip spacing come from your panel maker’s installation guide and the roof’s wind design.

Run them with a screw gun at a moderate speed and let the point do the work; leaning hard or running too fast can burn the tip before it breaks through. Stop as soon as the head seats so the clip base is not distorted.

These screws work with Snaplock Clips, the Standing Seam Fixed Clip and the Standing Seam Floating Clip, and are often ordered with Butyl Tape and Tyvek Protec underlayment for the same roof.

Questions

Do I need to pre-drill?

No. The drill point makes its own hole in steel; use a screw gun at moderate speed.

Can I use it on wood decking?

It will drive into wood, but for plywood or OSB the sharp-point Pan Clip Head Screws are the usual choice.
