About this product
The Malco AV3 is a combination-cut aviation snip for roofers, HVAC installers and sheet metal mechanics who want one snip for straight lines and gentle curves in either direction. The yellow grips mark it as the straight-and-both-ways pattern in Malco’s AV line, which Malco aims at everyday field work.
Malco rates it for 18 gauge mild and galvanized steel, 20 gauge stainless, .062″ aluminum and .054″ copper, so it handles painted coil, flashing and duct metal without strain. The jaws are hardened forged steel with a 1-1/2″ length of cut, the tool is 9-7/8″ long and weighs 14 oz, and the POWER-FIT grips have non-slip grooves and hand guards. A self-opening latch lets you open and lock the snip with one hand.
For tighter curves, and for keeping your hand above the sheet on long cuts, add an offset snip: the Malco AV6 cuts left, and the Malco MAX2000 M2007 cuts right. For long straight cuts in aluminum trim coil or vinyl, the Andy pattern snips (Malco M12A, M12NG or M14N) take a 3″ or longer bite per stroke.
Malco covers the AV3 with its Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original buyer.

Questions
Will the AV3 cut 24 gauge painted steel?
Yes. Malco rates it up to 18 gauge mild or galvanized steel, which is thicker than 24 gauge.
Do I also need a left or right snip?
Many installers carry the AV3 plus offset snips for tight curves: the Malco AV6 cuts left and the MAX2000 M2007 cuts right.
