About this product

The ESE Decoiler Heavy Duty is a free-standing coil stand from Engineered Sheet-metal Equipment (ESE) of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, made for portable roll forming crews and shops that pay coil into a panel machine. It shares its frame with the ESE Standard decoiler but carries a higher rating, for crews who load heavier coils.

ESE rates it for 5,000 lb static load, coils up to 34″ wide and up to 38″ outside diameter. The six-prong core expands from 15″ to 21″ to grip the coil ID, and a dual locking spider holds it square on the shaft. Friction brakes on the frame keep the coil from overrunning when the machine stops. The frame is 46″ long with a 44″ shaft, 35.5″ wide and 27″ high, with the core centerline at 30″, or 32.5″ when fully expanded. The whole unit weighs 168 lb, of which the core is 90 lb.

ESE’s setup guide has the coil laid on its side with a forklift and strap, the core inserted while the coil sits on the ground, and the frame moved into place under the shaft ends before the brake arms close; the nut is only finger-tightened so the shaft can turn. For lighter coils, see the ESE Decoiler Standard (3,000 lb); for coil up to 48″ wide, the ESE Extra Wide Decoiler. Feed it Steel Coil or Aluminum Coil slit for your panel.

Questions

How does it differ from the ESE Standard decoiler?

Same frame size, core range and 34" width; ESE rates the Heavy Duty for 5,000 lb static load versus 3,000 lb for the Standard, and its core is slightly heavier.

Do I need a forklift?

ESE's setup instructions use a forklift and lifting strap to lay the coil on its side and lift the coil and core into the frame.
