About this product
The StanGroup D800CNC is a production metal spinning lathe with computer-controlled X and Z axes. It is aimed at fabricators who spin round parts in volume, such as cones, cylinders, hemispheres, parabolic shapes and toroids, and who want repeatable parts without relying on a skilled hand spinner for every piece.
The maker rates it for blanks up to 800 mm (about 31.5″) in diameter and parts up to 500 mm long. Wall thickness runs from 0.5 mm up to 3.0 mm in aluminum and copper, 2.5 mm in carbon steel and 2.0 mm in stainless steel; brass and other alloys can be spun as well. One tool set handles spinning along with trimming, flanging, edge rolling and threading, so many parts can be finished in a single setup. Two forming rollers work from one side.
Key figures from StanGroup: 40 kN of force on both the X and Z axes and 30 kN at the tailstock, 400 mm of X travel and 850 mm of Z travel on linear guide rails, 10 m/min rapid traverse, 0.03 mm positioning accuracy with 0.01 mm repeatability, an 11 kW spindle motor turning up to 1,700 rpm, and a 3 kW hydraulic unit. The tool post holds 4+1 tools with 25 mm shanks. The machine measures about 3.5 x 2.1 x 1.9 m and weighs roughly 4,000 kg (about 8,800 lb), so plan rigging and floor space before delivery.
For short runs, prototypes or one-off pieces, the Manual metal spinning lathe D31 and Manual metal spinning lathe D47 are the hand-operated machines in the same range. Blanks can be cut from Aluminum Sheet, Copper Sheet or Steel Sheet.

Questions
What shapes can it spin?
StanGroup lists cones, cylinders, hemispheres, parabolic shapes and toroids.
How thick a blank can it handle?
Up to 3.0 mm in aluminum and copper, 2.5 mm in carbon steel and 2.0 mm in stainless steel, per StanGroup.
Is there a manual alternative?
Yes. The manual D31 takes blanks up to 31" and the D47 up to 47"; both are hand-operated lathes from the same maker.
