About this product
The D208 series are BESSEY ERDI punch snips with curved blades, hand snips made for cutting circles, round openings and tight curves in sheet metal. Roofers, HVAC installers and sheet metal workers use them for pipe penetrations, round duct openings and curved flashing details, where a straight-bladed snip leaves a jagged edge. Despite the “metal sheet shear” name on the old listing, this is a hand tool, not a machine.
BESSEY makes the D208 from forged steel with painted handles, with semicircular cutting edges that follow a curve smoothly. The snip is 275 mm (11″) long with a 40 mm (1-9/16″) blade, weighs about 0.51 kg, and is rated for sheet up to 1.0 mm thick in steel of 600 N/mm² tensile strength. It comes as the D208-275 for right-hand cuts and the D208-275L for left-hand cuts.
For long straight cuts, BESSEY’s pelican snips, listed in this catalog as the Metal sheet shear D218, have a much longer blade. For general field cutting with offset handles, compare the Malco AV3 and AV6 aviation snips, and for long cuts in trim coil, the Malco Andy pattern snips. Copper Sheet, Zinc Sheet and Aluminum Sheet all cut cleanly with it within its rating.
