About this product
The D218 is BESSEY ERDI’s pelican snip, a hand snip with an extra-long blade for long, continuous straight cuts in sheet metal. Roofers and sheet metal mechanics use pelican snips to cut strips and panels to width along a line in fewer strokes than an aviation snip. The old listing called it a “metal sheet shear”, but it is a hand tool, not a bench machine.
BESSEY offers the D218 with painted handles in two lengths. The D218-300 is 300 mm (12″) long with a 62 mm blade, rated for 1.0 mm sheet in steel of 600 N/mm² tensile strength, and weighs about 0.73 kg; it comes in right-cut and left-cut (D218-300L) versions. The D218-350 is 350 mm (14″) long with a 65 mm blade and weighs about 0.80 kg, in right-cut only. BESSEY’s D118 is the same snip with PVC-dipped handles, and the D418 is a version with HSS blades.
For circles and curves, the BESSEY D208 punch snips in this catalog (listed as Metal sheet shear D208 series) are the matching curved-blade tool. Malco’s Andy pattern snips, such as the M12NG and M14N, are another option for long straight cuts in vinyl and trim coil, and the WUKO Cutter 1070 handles long cuts in sheet without hand fatigue.
