About this product
The StanGroup MEL is a manual goffering (crimping) machine that bends straight downspout into elbows. Gutter installers and small shops use it to make their own elbows from seamless or welded pipe, so each elbow matches the downspout it connects to.
One lever drives a rack-and-gear crimper, and a second lever advances the pipe through a chain drive, so the machine needs no power at all. An elbow takes about 10 seconds, and output runs from 2 to 6 pieces a minute depending on the pipe size. Dies are required and are offered for 2″ x 3″ and 3″ x 4″ rectangular pipe and for 2″ and 3″ round; the machine is set up for aluminum pipe at .019″. The aluminum frame keeps it to about 120 lb and 18″ x 18″ x 16″ high, compact enough for a workbench. StanGroup notes the MEL is assembled in the USA and that the finished elbows serve both downspout and HVAC work, so a sheet metal shop doing duct jobs can put it to use as well.
