RPBR Exposed Fastener Corrugate Panel

R-panel, called PBR when it has a purlin bearing leg at the side lap, is a workhorse exposed fastener profile on metal buildings. Each panel, about 36″ wide, has tall major ribs with wide flat pans between them; panels lap at the ribs and fasten through the face into the purlins, girts or deck. It is used for roofing and siding on barns, garages, warehouses, shops and agricultural buildings, and it can be used on homes too, although standing seam is more common there.

The appeal is speed and simplicity. There are no clips and no seaming, the wide panels mean fewer sheets to set, and a small crew can close in a building quickly. Panels in this profile are made in gauges from 29 up to 22, with 26 gauge the most common choice, and in both SMP and PVDF paint systems. A 26 gauge SMP panel suits many buildings, while others call for a heavier gauge in PVDF.

On R-panel the fasteners go in the low, flat areas of the panel, into the structure below, using sealing-washer screws driven snug. Run Butyl Tape in the side laps and end laps, use closures at the eave and ridge, and check the panel maker’s minimum slope and screw pattern for your roof. Trim can be bent from Steel Coil on a Van Mark brake, field cuts made with Malco snips, and scratches touched up with Sherwin-Williams Ready Match.
